Common Foot and Ankle Conditions
Various conditions can lead to pain in the feet and ankles. Whether your pain is new or old, we are here to help.
Some of the most common foot and ankle conditions treated at Direct Orthopedic Care include:
Ankle sprains
Rolling the ankle in the wrong direction can stretch or tear the ligaments, resulting in an ankle sprain injury.
Bunions
A bunion appears as a bony bump near the base of the big toe. Bunions form when bones in the front of the foot shift out of place.
Achilles Tendonitis
Achilles tendonitis occurs when the Achilles tendon is overworked. Achilles tendonitis is common among runners, especially those who increase the duration or intensity of their runs.
Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition that affects the ball of the foot. Common symptoms include stinging, burning, and numbness in the toes.
Arthritis
Arthritis in the foot or ankle is common and can occur when one or more of the joints in the foot or ankle becomes inflamed.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the leading causes of heel pain. For many sufferers, plantar fasciitis causes a stabbing pain that is present from the morning’s very first step.
Flat Feet
For almost all patients, flat feet—also known as fallen arches—is a painless condition that occurs when the arches of the feet are flat. This condition can develop as a result of an injury or from normal wear and tear.
Fractures
Ankle fractures occur when the ankle joint undergoes an amount of stress that causes the bone to give in and break.
