NECK / SPINE
Common Neck and Back Conditions
The spine is one of the most complex and important systems in the human body. Many conditions can cause pain and limit function in the back, neck, and spine.
Some of the most common back and neck conditions treated at Direct Orthopedic Care include:
Sciatica
Sciatica is the term for a lumbar/sacral nerve root irritation. This disorder commonly occurs when an injury, such as a herniated disc, compresses part of the nerve.
Herniated Disc
A herniated disc is caused by trauma or injury to a disc, which results in disc protrusion. This injury is commonly a result of growing older or sudden, jarring motions.
Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis occurs when a vertebra slips out of line with an adjacent vertebra. This disorder is common among active children and adolescents.
Disc Degeneration
Disc degeneration is a form of arthritis that occurs when discs dry out and lose their ability to cushion the vertebrae. This is commonly a result of growing older.
Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis refers to the narrowing of the canal that houses the spinal cord and nerve roots. Spinal stenosis most commonly appears in the lower back and neck area.
